LET SPIN consists of MOSS FREED (guitar), RUTH GOLLER (bass), CHRIS WILLIAMS (saxophone) and FINLAY PANTER (drums). Their spectacular eponymous 2014 debut announced them as ‘a significant new UK jazz force’ (John Fordham, The Guardian) and followup LET GO is the album that confirms them as one of the most exciting new bands in Europe.

Featuring members of Melt Yourself Down, Led Bib, Beats & Pieces Big Band and Moss Project, Let Spin is a band brimming with an individual and collective confidence. Recorded after a period of extensive touring, LET GO is the electrifying result of 18 months of writing and rehearsing, and fully delivers on the band’s significant promise as four powerful musical voices come together to forge a band sound that is uniquely their own.

LET GO is a record that really highlights Let Spin as a band with a very cohesive group sound, but also a band that is not afraid to make the most of their individual voices; a band confident enough to explore both individual and group aesthetics in composition and performance. It is this hard earned group empathy that gives them the rare ability to move between thrashy punk, wistful reflection and more complex, quirky territory so effortlessly.

Moss Freed – Guitar

Mancunian Moss Freed studied music at Edinburgh University before being awarded scholarships from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Bucher/Fraser Trust and the Berklee World Scholarship Tour for further study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, subsequently completing a masters in composition at Goldsmiths College, London. Moss has performed around the world and has been supported by BBC Radio 3, Jazz FM and BBC 6Music. He runs his own band, Moss Project, outside of which he also performs in a duet with Alice Zawadzki and plays the music of John Zorn with The Spike Orchestra.

Chris Williams – Alto Saxophone

Chris was born and raised in North London and after being inspired by jazz in his early years of playing has grown to love playing music of all types. He is an active member in the thriving London music scene, covering genres from electro pop and left field rock to African folk and free improv. Being involved in this vast array of styles whilst striving for his own voice in these settings has had a profound effect on how he approaches music and has led to Chris playing in a number of groups including genre-dodging outfit, Led Bib (nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2009) and Metamorphic, as well as with musicians such as Arun Ghosh and Zambian/Scottish singer-songwriter, Namvula.

Finlay Panter – Drums

Currently based in Berlin, Finlay performs with various artists and groups across Europe including the acclaimed UK big band Beats & Pieces, winners of the Burghausen International Jazz Festival’s European Young Artists’ Jazz Award and Ensemble of the Year at the 2014 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Finlay graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2007 with honours, having studied with Dave Hassell and Ian Wright.

Ruth Goller – Bass

Originally from Bressanone, Italy, Ruth has been playing bass guitar and double bass in the UK since 2000 and is a respected and recognised voice in the UK’s jazz scene. After studying at Middlesex University, she began performing regularly with a range of ground-breaking and popular UK bands, including Oriole, Melt Yourself Down, Moss Project and Andreya Triana.
